Venue

The city of Guadalajara lies 50 km to the north-east of Madrid, and only 20 from the UNESCO World Heritage University of Alcalá's historic campus in the city of Alcalá de Henares. The Conference will take place in and around the University of Alcalá's Guadalajara Campus and in the medieval city of Sigüenza.

Plenary lectures will take place in Guadalajara's splendid Palacio del Infantado and the Antigua Iglesia de los Remedios, which now belongs to the University of Alcalá. Panel sessions will take place in the modern setting of the Education Faculty and, on the afternoon of Thursday 10 May, in the Casa del Doncel, Sigüenza, a historic mansion also owned by the University of Alcalá in the heart of Sigüenza.

El Palacio del Infantado

Conference Inauguration, first plenary lecture and reception (Wednesday 9 May).

​

The late-fifteenth century palace of the Duques del Infantado has had an eventful history. Site of two royal weddings (Philip II and Elisabeth of Valois, Philip V and Elisabeth Farnese), school for the orphaned daughters of military officers, it is now home to the Provincial Musuem and Art Gallery and stages Guadalajara's annual international story-telling festival and marathon.

La Antigua Iglesia de los Remedios

Second and third plenary lectures (Thursday 10 and Friday 11 May).

​

Built in the second half of the sixteenth century, la Antigua Iglesia de los Remedios was a convent school for almost two centuries and now serves as "Aula Magna" for the Guadalajara Campus. 

​

The Education Faculty (Facultad de Educación)

Registration, panel sessions and Sederi AGM (Wednesday 9, Thursday 10 and Friday 11 May).

The modern buildings of the University of Alcalá's Education Faculty are close to the site of Spain's first teacher training institute.

La Casa del Doncel (Sigüenza)

This gothic mansion in the medieval city of Sigüenza is now owned by the University of Alcalá.
